The article that stood out to me the most was the article entitled "10 Stages of Genocide". Each step that leads to genocide was listed, along with a way to prevent it. I think it is really important that these steps are recognized, because that means that identifying genocides are easier and they can be stopped as soon as possible if the warning signs are present.
ReplyDeleteThe article that stood out to me was "Acts of Genocide Since the Adoption of the Convention on the Prevention an Punishment of Genocide in 1951." They had a section where they were explaining frustrations about Genocide, and said how they don't understand the overall goal and why it happens. I agreed with this because nothing is accomplished from Genocides only more deaths.

The website that had the most impact on me was "Genocide in Syria." This website didn't have any explanations or paragraphs about the genocide besides the sentence stating "Pictures say more than a thousand words." The website was a gallery of pictures from the chemical attacks. They were very graphic and detailed. As the viewer, it was very hard to continue to scroll through these pictures. This website definitely got its point across.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures from the Genocide in Syria website really stood out to me because I thought it was crazy to see these people ,who didn't even look like humans in some of the pictures anymore, who were attacked by their own government. It is shocking to think that this is happening the same day we are typing this.
ReplyDeleteThe article that stood out to me was the article "The Syrian Genocide is Now Trumps Problem". It is interesting to see the way previous President Obama handled the situation in a passive way, and now Commander in Chief Trump handled the situation with a more aggressive approach and began to bomb Syria. The Syrian government has crossed a line and Trump feels it is necessary to jump into action. It will be nerve-racking to see if America coming into action will be beneficial to the people of Syria or not, and also to see President Trumps steps on how to take care of this situation.
ReplyDeleteThe video "U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum: A Force for Change" stood out to me because the museum is not only bringing awareness to the Holocaust, but to other genocides as well. One woman who appeared in the video, Suzanne Brown-Fleming discussed a more recent genocide that took place in Germany. She believes that they way the Holocaust is taught, especially in Germany, is so important to how history plays out. Another comment that stood out to me was made by Rebecca Dupas. She is an African American woman who works for the museum and believes that it doesn't matter if the history of the Holocaust doesn't directly affect her family because genocide impacts everyone.
ReplyDeleteI read the article "10 Stages of Genocide". I was surprised how the order of the stages of genocide aligned with the Holocaust. It was very interesting that it gave examples that connected to different genocides in history throughout the world. I never would have expected that there was a protocol to stopping a genocide as well. The text states that the more the genocide has progressed, the harder it is to end. I think that this was the case with FDR and the Holocaust.

The article that stood out to me was the 10 Stages of Genocide because it shows the process and capabilities of the people that create genocides. There are many dehumanizing and persecuting actions that have to be taken to separate people based on what they look like and what the choose to believe in life.
ReplyDeleteWhat stood out to me the most was the pictures of the Syrian genocide, because it made me think of how lucky we are to be in this environment, and it made me very aware of what terrible things are going on around the world.
